Ask a new question. States that the Windows 10 updates are cumulative. And that the update KB contains all previous updates. Which to me sounds like a mini service pack. Also, that the cumulative update will not install any previous updates already installed, which of course makes sense.

And only install what’s not installed yet. So, being that Windows 10 updates are cumulative, does that mean that each next update will contain all updates of the previous updates as well. My guess it that each new cumulative update will only go back so far so that it doesn’t get too big over time, but maybe not.

Because why download a massive update that is if each update contains the last updates as well if your computer is just about up to date already. What I was thinking, was uninstalling all previous updates just to install the latest by itself to see if it does add all the other KB updates. Do you know how it quite works? More importantly, I was probably not asking the right questions in the right way. In my original question, I did know that the update would only install the updates to the system that needed updating. And if your system had a lot of the updates already installed, then update KB would skip those updates that were already installed.

What I didn’t know , is that if the whole update KB package was downloaded first before it checked if you already had any previous updates or not. But I already found the answer to that after googling information on the subject. And yes, it will only download the parts needed. Because it would be a waste of bandwidth to download the updates you already had. Another question I asked in my original post was, “if every update would contain all previous updates. But then I thought about it and answered my own question.

That wouldn’t make sense because if Microsoft needs to update with one security patch there not going to keep making people download a big file with all previous updates just for a few updates. So every once in a while, Microsoft will put out a cumulative update, like a mini service pack or large one I guess.

What I’m going to do next is uninstall all updates and then re-update to see how it works how it tics! I will post back Then I uninstalled all updates, then reinstalled the updates, and here’s what it did: now only 3 updates.

As you can see, the only update that did not get reinstalled was the security update KB Which of course means that its already in the cumulative update KB At first, I thought that it would get rid of all the past updates and that there would only be the cumulative update KB showing. This may seem a little redundant, but I just wanted to see how it worked. Had I not uninstalled all the updates and reinstalled, then I would still have a separate update KB showing.

All in all, KB is built into KB Hence I see, cumulative. So, I realize that when a cumulative packaged is released, your system will be checked for the updates you do or don’t have, and only download what you don’t have instead of the whole package.

And of course, I’m not gonna uninstall and reinstall way down the road after Windows 10 has been out for a while, that would be crazy of course, LOL. But it was easy this time because Windows 10 is fresh out to the public and not that many updates are out yet.

And having some insight on the update – when KB saw that the update KB was already installed, it doesn’t remove it since its already installed and working running. Which means that, as far as I can guess, that the cumulative packages somehow now how not do download that portion of itself.
